Yellow Peeps Roasting On An Open Fire

Yes, we are a weird family.

But we have a lot of fun. So it was in the low 50s upper 40s last night and I mean both outside and in our house because we have had the windows open and sometimes even the ceiling fan running. When we got home from work we thought about turning on the oven and cooking a bunch to warm things up or grilling wieners on the fireplace but instead we decided to just leave.

Heath started a fire in the upstairs fireplace. It’s almost May and we had a fire in the fireplace and everyone loved it. Nobody agreed on where to go for dinner, we kept putting off the decision until we were literately in the van and driving along. Then we remembered a Vietnam Cafe just down the street we had been wanting to try. It was close, it was new and exciting and they serve a great cold weather dish and I have to assume we don’t have a lot of cold weather days left.

Surprisingly everyone loved this idea.

The menu was pretty tough as we didn’t know what much was and none of the sizes or prices were really kid friendly but we took our time and ended up making a great order that pleased everyone.

A noodle dish called Pho was the only thing we had eaten before and it stole the show, everyone loved it.

The kids all ate a ton. The appetizers and stuff we got were all really good too. Peanut loved the pork dumpling things and Pumpkin and Bean ate the sweet potato fry things really well.

Once we had eaten all the food and most of the garnish we left very stuffed. We decided to walk it off and headed over to Price Chopper for some marshmallows to roast for dessert. Once in the store we got steak, donuts, kale oatmeal and all sorts of good stuff but no marshmallows.

We realized that after we got home but luckily Heath had a plan. Bean was tired and crabby and we got her in bed, I started painting, the big kids cleaned up and got ready for bed. Then Heath took over painting and I got the fire built up and the kids cooking.

We roasted 4 peeps on wire hangers and none caught fire or fell in the ash or anything. As the kids cooked, I got chocolate and peanut butter on gram-crackers warming in the toaster oven. Then we put everything together.

And ate them.

Oh man were they great, really gooey and messy. The kids ate and read books and brushed teeth and went to bed. Heath finished her trim and I went back to work on the ones I was doing. Everything is looking good but there are a few spots that I think will need another coat. The house being a total disaster painting area was getting to us so we cleaned it all up.

I think I forgot to mention the paint we are using is a really thick glossy oil based stuff that I love but it puts off quite a stink while it dries. We used it on all the previous trim and a lot of the kids kitchen we built and it is really durable stuff. So that’s why we are so overboard on airing out the house.
