Day 5: Squishy Cucumbers

I was the first one up in our room and I could tell it was nicer outside without opening the curtains. I got my laptop and set up a little desk in the bathroom and got a couple of blogs posted and a bunch of pictures uploaded to my smugmug. Everyone else got up

and we took showers and packed up, then we checked out and headed back to the mainland for dinner. I found a place on Yelp called Cosmic Kitchen and we went there. Everyone was hungry and ate great and the food was really good. Peanut even went back for a 2nd order of biscuits and gravy after finishing his plate.

As we finished breakfast a nearby winery was opening up so we drove over there and took the kids on a little hike to a koy pond and then let them play ipad while we did our tasting. Many of the wines were made from rhubarb grown at the winery.

After the tasting we had some time to kill and decided to go back to the same super cool park. We played for a bit and then rushed back out to the spit. We paid $5 each and did a harbor dock tour.

It was really cool we all laid on our stomachs on the docks with some guides and played with sea life growing there. Nothing was harmful and we were encouraged to touch everything we could reach.

This was really fun because none of our kids fell into the water somehow. We touched all sorts of mussels, anemones, starfish, jellyfish, and other things. I really liked squeezing these cucumber things that felt all gross and squishy and the kids loved the giant starfish that would pull the hairs on their arms.

We played for a little over an hour before taking our cold arms back to the car.

We loaded up and left the spit. Bean was fast asleep in no time. She was sleeping so good that we drove right on through lunch and made the drive back in much better time. We were even able to hold off on a gas stop until Bean was awake and then eat some snacks in the car.

All day we drove through bits of rain and sun and clouds and wind and it was never bad out but it was hard to tell what the weather was going to do.

When we got into Anchorage we picked up a couple pizzas made a salad and ate dinner. We were all pretty tired but it took a while to get the kids to sleep.
