Wilson Lake

Heath and some friends went on some epic trip to Havasu Falls. While they were out the kids had a lemonade stand and Jon and I got the trailler ready for Memorial Day weekend at Wilson Lake.

6 kayaks, 2 canoes and 4 bikes.

The next weekend we drove about 4 hours to the lake. When we got to our spot it was partially under water and the staff thought the water was still rising.

We ended up moving our 3 campsites around a bit but eventually all got spots and got setup at dusk.

The kids ran around crazy for a bit and we relaxed around camp until bed. In the morning we added to the campsites some and had breakfast.

Then we took the boats out

We paddled right across the lake for some large rocks we could see on the other side and got out over there.

We happened upon a really fun area with lots to see and do. The rocks were really colorful and fun to climb around on.

We found several critters

And just had fun.

It was getting more and more windy and dark though and we had to go against the wind to get back. We also ran short on snacks and drinks so eventually we had to head back.

The trip back actually went really easy.

The passengers chanted for the paddlers and we cruised right across the lake. Shortly after our return the mom’s showed up headed home from their adventure and joined us.

We hung out around camp and let the kids roam. We started a fire

and grilled some burgers.

and watched campsites slowly get swallowed by the lake.

We got everyone to bed and then cooked breakfast in the morning and started packing up camp. It was nice and sunny and we had planned for another night but we heard a storm was coming that afternoon and it was expected that our site was going under water. Once we had mostly packed up we went for another float.

We found some different rocks that were closer and good for jumping off.

The water was cold but we swam some and then warmed in the sun.

The clouds slowly covered the sun and we had our lunch on the rocks.

Then we paddled back to camp and packed up the trailer.

We got everything stowed and all the kids loaded up just before it started raining. On the way home we stopped at Blind Tiger Brewery in Topeka for dinner and then headed home to dry out our stuff. The rain hindered our trip some but it was still a great time.
