As soon as she was up Heath took the van and headed into the nearest town to do some work. I poked around camp, read my book and cleaned up a bit of a mess. Apparently we didn’t get the bear box locked quite right and the racoons got in. Luckily most of our food was in tubs but they got a whole box of wine and a little bit of cheese and summer sausage. The trash sack was unprotected and got torn up also.
Bean was the first kid up and we hung out and tried to be quiet until the other kids got up. Then we cooked up oatmeal and apple cider and coffee. Once all the kids were dressed we went for a hike.
We looked for another trail that was somewhere near our campsite but did not really find it. We ended up mostly following a dry creek bed. We had no destination so just played around and wondered wherever we felt like. The kids found lots of “treasures”.
We had a good time climbing around on the trees and exploring the forest but I was eager to get going. We headed back to the campsite and Heath was not there so we gathered a big pile of firewood and brought it to our campfire ring. Then we played hide and seek and cleaned up camp and got everything ready for the day.
Eventually it got close to lunch time so we went ahead and got cooking lunch. Heath got back just as lunch was ready so we all ate, packed up our extra food and cooking supplies in the bear box good and then drove to the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias.
Both girls didn’t make the drive.
So Peanut and I wondered around near the parking lot and bathrooms.
We found the map and got a hike plan ready and eventually the girls were up and we were ready.
I think it was like a 2 mile hike and we saw a lot of great big trees.
We even went through one.
There was a lot more hiking to do and a bunch more giant trees but the kids needed a break and we were running out of time. So we headed back to the van and drove on. As we got out of the forest it started looking like rain.
We didn’t mind and went to some other waterfalls.
Then we found a creek and pulled over to hike around it and play.
We got hungry and went back to camp and cooked up dinner and then some more popcorn.
The popcorn didn’t work as well this time.
Then we had some great entertainment for the night. The kids performed a bunch of skits for us.
We had a nice fire going so cooked some more marshmallows. 
Then we got the van and a few things ready for the morning and got to bed early so we could get an early start the next day.
