We tried to sleep in and it went okay but I still felt like our kids got up too early. Adam went to work early and Stephanie got coffee and pancake batter brewing. Heath and I started packing clothes and gear and rolling up sleeping bags, blankets and ground pads.
Packing went pretty quick and I took over frying pancakes while Stephanie got ready to work the store. Once all the pancakes were done I took her across the lake in the boat. I took most of our gear and packed up Pop’s truck. We did a bunch of clean up and finished up catching fish and digging in the dirt and all the other fun stuff. Finally everything was ready and we headed out.
It was hard to leave long lake but we were excited for the rest of our vacation. We stopped by Stephanie’s shop on the way out of town and got some coffee for the road.
The girls were tired and fell asleep on the slow drive into Chitna after 1 potty break on the gravel. As we entered Chitna we found a moose right next to the road. We were low on gas and kept driving with our fingers crossed.
Heath drove and I tried to get caught up on my blog. We made it to the gas station and waited 4 deep in line to pay $5 a gallon for gas. We got a few drinks and then hit the road feeling better. We stopped a few times on the drive looking for a good spot to eat and ended up at a little dinner called Caribou Cafe. The food was good and the servings giant. We got back on the road and shortly later started trying to find a campsite near a big glacier. We ended up trying 3 different places that were all full. We drove back and forth a bit and finally found a place on Sheep Mountain that had a spot left. It was right off the highway but the view was great.
There was no danger of it getting dark but the clouds were rolling in and in no time we had the spot reserved and the tent, crib and sleeping bags set up.
It started to sprinkle and we were all ready for a treat so walked over to the lodge. The kids got ice cream and we got beers and we sat by a big stuffed moose in a green house. We played I spy and I planned some of the rest of our trip on the wifi.
We had to call it quits and we all went to the bathroom then got in the tent. We let the kids watch a quick show on the laptop and then we all laid down and worked on taking big deep breaths and saying things that we liked about our vacation.
Shortly after the final round the kids fell asleep. I fell asleep too and then it started to pour. It rained and rained hard all night. Heath and I woke up and had a hard time getting back to sleep but we both went to the bathroom in the rain and then fell asleep.
