We all slept in as well as we could but one little one is usually not interested in sleep.

So we got breakfast started. All vacation I was boiling water. Boiling water for coffee, cider, hot coco, rice, noodles, anything, even my favorite pine needle tea.  DSC_0046_6

We didn’t keep a cooler w/ ice for much of the vacation but at this point we still had cold yogurt, cheese and cooked bacon with our coffee and oatmeal. We packed up our campsite and headed just a little ways down the road to Zapata falls.

We started this with a short but hot hike.

Soon enough we were at the water and leaving the trail to follow the creek upstream.

The creek goes back a way and the canyon gets a bit more narrow.

Then your at the falls.

It was cold and wet and kinda dark so hard to get pictures but it looked really cool.

We played around in the cold creek for a while then headed down to a picnic area. All the tables were right in the sun so we grabbed a blanket and improvised.

Lunch was good and after we drove out of the mountains and into the city. There are lot of hot springs around and we decided to check out a hot spring fed pool near Alamosa, CO.

There was a little breeze and the air was kind of cool but the pool was like 94F I think. It was pretty refreshing and felt good after a couple days with no showers. There was also water slides.

And we were able to bring in snacks and drinks.

We hung out all afternoon killing most of the day. Then we started our drive to Bryce Canyon and kept an eye out for a good dinner stop. We ended up finding a great park in Gunnison, CO.

We were pretty hungry and it was getting dark so we started on dinner right away.

We got dinner cooked and ate before dark and still had quite a bit of time to play.

By the time we left though it was dark.

We got everyone ready for bed, Heath took the wheel first and I played a couple of kids audio book stories and slept. About halfway to Bryce, Heath napped and I drove us the rest of the way to Bryce.
