We’ll I’m starting my post at 4:20am and the only picture I have is this so you know things are not great.
This picture was taken 20 minutes or so before Heath took me to the emergency room. Before we left my eye and lips got more swollen and I gave up on getting better on my own. As we walked into the emergency room my skin itching backed off and I didn’t feel as hot. As I sat down in my hospital room the itching went away completely and Heath reported I was not as red. My symptoms got better and better and by the time the nurse showed up I was hardly swollen at all.
I suppose I should back up a bit. I had a late lunch yesterday. Meeting with a coworker and a public radio guy from some European country (I wanta say Holland). We went to Californos on KCUR’s dime and they both got salmon and a prospect salad. I got a Caesar salad and pork tenderloin sandwich w/ fruit, mashed potatoes and some sweet poppy seed covered yellow pasta.
We had a great conversation and we all learned a lot about how stations and listeners work in radio in our countries. The food was fantastic too and we all cleaned our plates. I ate everything but the pasta then decided I was still hungry and would give it a shot. Moments later I discovered it’s secret ingredient.
No, actually it was not kryptonite but seems kind of like it to me. It was some sort of nut.
And I am very allergic to some sort of nut.
So I told my lunch party we needed to go and we headed out and I did not feel too bad but could tell things were not great. Once back to the station I shut my door droped my pants and stuck an epinephrine injector into my leg.
Then I asked a coworker to give me a ride home and I still did not feel too bad. I was hot and felt a bit swollen. I laid down and tried to watch tv but was too shaky and hot. My skin started to get more and more itchy. I took 2 benedryl and laid back down. I drank some water and tossed and turned and tried not to scratch my palms and head and eventually everything. It worsened and I could feel my eyes and lips start to swell so decided to get out the other Epi pen and stab my leg again.
This really did not do much. Typically when I use one of these I immediately feel cool and sleepy and much better in no time. Heath was reporting I was looking worse and worse. I asked for 20 more minutes to see how I would feel before doing anything else. I lasted for 5-10 minutes before I started to feel worse. I did not have trouble breathing but my throat may have been a bit swollen.
Heath got Becky to watch Peanut for us and we headed out to the hospital. As I mentioned before the drive over about cured me and maybe had I waited the 20 minutes we would have turned around and came home but we didn’t. We payed the $100 for some injected benedryl and steroids and some other drug and some breath treatment thing.
As I laid in the bed the tired part sunk in and I really wanted to go home and go to bed. They observed me forever though and it seemed like a long time before we were allowed to go home. I laid down and watched tv for a bit then Heath got me some mac and cheese w/ tuna and peas and I ate and fell asleep. I woke up some point early in the night and came out to talk to Heath and Stooks for a bit and eat more. Peanut was already in bed. I was 1/2 asleep and out of it and decided to go back to bed. I watched a bit of tv then fell asleep. I got up at 2:30am and checked on some work problem.
I knew I needed to come in at night sometime and diagnose a stream problem so decided tonight was the night and at 3:30am I left home and came into work to check it out. So here I am at work waiting for something to go wrong with our stream.
Everyday since sometime on my honeymoon at around this time it dies, but today it is working fine. I’m not sure how my day is going to go as I have both the truck and Heath’s car with me at work at the moment and need to get one back to her by 7:30am. Also I have a meeting at 8:30 I probably should make it to.
