I’m uploading pictures right now of this weekends snow hike so I’ll start with the other stuff we did then get to the hike later. First the breakfast nook is done and in use.
Here it is:
And the table we had before:
We are big fans. I’ll probably start calling it the kitchen table instead of breakfast nook as there is some controversy over Aldi’s choice in naming it and now that it is the only table in our kitchen it can be the kitchen table.
The other weekend project was the basement of course. I got the primer up on the walls, then the ceiling, then another coat on the ceiling just because we wanted to make sure it would look ok being smooth and white and not have texture like the rest of the room. Then we went to Home Depot and got ceiling paint and wall paint. I got a coat of ceiling paint up and painted the tops of the walls with the same stuff. I did part of the walls too because I want it to be white behind the crown molding and lights but colored below.
Then I was too excited to stop painting so I got part of a coat of the blue/gray wall paint up.
You can see the dull white I am covering up verses the bright white along the ceiling and top of wall. The ceiling paint was not totally dry and we have not decided where the crown molding will go exactly so there is a gap along the top still.
Besides painting in the basement Brian and I carried this heavy TV downstairs.
And we put it here.
Also I got to cut another hole in the wall and build some support around it in preparation for sticking the refrigerator in the bar through the wall.
Here is the room when I left it this morning.
Now for the hike.
Saturday morning at about 11am the 6 person 2 dog expedition left our house bundled in warm clothes and packed with food, cameras, water and beer. Jon drove us packed in the Bronco the 2-3 miles to the trail head and then we set out.
I was surprised that other explorers had beat us to the trail and we followed footsteps most of the way. The first part of the trip is was snowing pretty good then it died and got a bit windy and colder but not bad and right near the end the sun came out. We followed the winding trails and picked random directions at the forks and ended up on the highline trail.
This trail splits off from the river and gets into the rocky hills. After a couple hours of hiking we left the trail and found a semi flat area beside a nice big rock that made a nice table, shelf and grill holder.
We built a fire fairly easily and then jabed the grill into the rock and loaded it up with deer tenderloins, kielbasa sausage and chicken nuggets. We had chips, apples granola bars and peanuts while we waited for the meat.
Everything we cooked was pretty good, especially considering we were in the woods in 5 inches of snow and had been drinking beer all morning.
After lunch we turned around and followed some different forks back a ways. Once we got 30 minutes from the car we took a new fork and followed the river aways and found a couple of gravel bars to hang out on and watch the dogs play.
Then we headed back and after a short hike arived at the Bronco around 4pm.
The Andersons stayed for some TV moving, sewing, drinking and we ate a big pile of cream cheese enchaladas.
There are a bunch of great hike pictures I didn’t have room for, check them all out http://prewitt.smugmug.com/gallery/7493381_QvNFi#P-1-15
