ThePrewitt.com’s 5th Annual TRIATHLON

TRIATHLON IS TOMORROW:LAST MINUTE INFORMATION (nothing crucial)

Saturday Forecast says: Cloudy skies. 20% chance of light wintry mix or sprinkles. high of 38 and low of 32 with winds 10-15mph.

Tips from an anonymous 4yr veteran:

Remember to get good and hydrated today and tomorrow morning because by Sunday you will be low on fluids.

Maybe pasta for dinner tonight so you have lots of energy and a breakfast/lunch tomorrow you would not mind seeing again (bacon always tastes good).
Eat a good full meat at like 1pm so your not too hungry and can save the appetite for the chili.

It’s too late to start training at this point so just take it easy tonight.
Maybe 1 or 2 drinks so your not too eager tomorrow afternoon.
Shoot for an average night of sleep, not too much not too little.

I don’t remember ever being or hearing about someone being cold.
Everyone is always over dressed and sweating as soon as they get to the bar.

There are 2 schools of thought on footwear. Definitely do 2 pairs of socks. Some people like a plastic bag around there foot to keep it dry some think the bag holds in sweat and does not let the foot breath. gloves and hats are great while running and easy to take off in hot bars, hoodies and long underwear are on till the end.

During the race don’t be afraid to order water, especially early on when you can remember too. On the long stretches start out with a really slow pace, on the short ones go all our but watch for ice. Someone always falls somewhere but luckily no one has been hurt.

Early on make some friends and work together at the bars. Take turns buying the drinks for each other and finding a spot to stand or sit. 1 drink per bar is expected but if you find a good special or nice view or just need a break hang out for more. Avoid buying shots as long as you can but it seems to inevitable that at some point shots will get going. However I have seen the 1 shot and 1 glass of water at each bar work well too.

If you don’t think you will have the stomach or legs or head for 6 miles you may want to have a phone number for a cab in your phone. Sometimes they are hard to find in Waldo.

Chris and Heath are taking the night off from parenting and won’t be parenting or policing the run. Do what you want, there are no rules. Have a coffee instead of a beer if you need it, walk if you can’t run, leave a bar early if you want to get to the next one or stay late if you need time to finish. It’s fun to stay in a group but there are enough of us that spreading out a little will help the bartenders out.

Any other tips from veterans or questions from newbies? comment at the bottom.

Remember meet at our house at 2:30pm and you are welcome to crash their afterward but may want a blanket & pillow as we could run out. There should be some amazing chili and average baked potatoes. In years past we have broken into karaoke and more drinking or just ate and passed out so who knows. If you are leaving early you should know that each bar gets more fun.
