Nice Summer evening

Yesterday at lunch I went home and packed up all my stuff I would need for the evening. Then after work I was able to head strait to Heath’s house from my office. Heath and I had been marinating a big bag of chicken for a couple days and I was excited to stir fry it up.

So right when I got to Heath’s I got all the teriaki, ginger, sesame something flavored chicken fried up. Then Heath and Peanut got home and we decided to go on our run. Peanut was insistent on riding his bike though.

Luckily I had recently read an article on long distance runners seeing much improvement in their endurance from running fast paced intervalls so we decided to walk to the track so that Peanut could ride his bike and we could get there and do some intervalls. Peanut was very excited about getting to show off his new trick of being able to peddle the bike by him self. This bike has really grown with Peanut. He got it for X-mas last year and at the time could only really rock on it. Eventually he was able to stear enough that we could push him arround on it and now he can peddle it on his own.

He is on the verge of calling it his motorcycle and making noises as he peddles but for now he needs to concentrate on peddleing and stearing at the same time and in the right dirrection.

So we got to the track after lots of stops to smell the flowers or examine rocks and Heath and I got to do some running. We only used 100meters of the track running back and forth. Peanut tried to ride the bike toward us at all times and we would high five as we passed. After running we decided to do a few stairs and we ran the bleachers for a while and Peanut counted for us. He was actually pretty good and getting up and down the bleachers on his own. Then we left the track and went to the playground so Peanut could show us how he could climb everything there. I left the playground early and ran back to Heath’s. I took half the chicken out of the pan and added celery, onions, broccoli medley, pineapple and some jalapenos. I also got some rice cooking and in no time dinner was ready and Heath and Peanut were home. We all ate a bunch of dinner, even Peanut out on the porch in the back yard. After eating I got a beer and we played in the back yard for a while and the neighbor came over to talk about the move and stuff.

That was about it for the night we had to eventually drag Peanut inside and stick him in the shower.

Nice weekend with a Crazy ending

Well first off the voting for the new vs old site is all tied up. You can see the results if you click on the "What should…" title deal then click on the results tab. Looks like for the most part everyone who created account wants to keep the site here and the people who did not voted to go back to the old page. So if you have not voted go ahead and.

Well Heath has been getting a lot of calls about people wanting to see her house so they can buy it from her so Friday after work I rushed over to her house and helped mow the lawn again and weed wack and get it ready to show to some people. I think I have finally gotten the riding lawnmower all figured out and I can mow the lawn fairly quickly and without making myself angry. Saturday we showed the house a bit then went to Cabelas. Then Jon, Derrick and I took the boat out for a little while and shot off our new bow fishing rigs. This was a short trip because I had to get ready for a KCUR Blues show at a bar called Knuckelheads. Â

Â

This show turned out to be a lot of fun and the bar was amazing. It was all outdoors with pick nick tables and bleachers set up to see the stage and everyone sat outside drinking and eating BBQ and watching the bands. Their was a railroad track right next door and an old train car that people sat in. I was impressed all around. Â Sunday morning I woke up and filled up my leaky tire then got the boat all ready for another fishing adventure. I got a cooler of hotdogs and beer ready and the bows and arrows and gas and tools and other boat stuff all set to go. We left around 9:30am and went to the Kaw west of town by 435. Jon and I cruised around in some creeks that feed into the river and tried to look for fish to shoot but the water is still very high, fast, and muddy. We never really saw any fish to go after. Eventually we pulled onto a sandbar and cooked the dogs and then walked the shore with the bows for a while but sill did not find any fish. After lunch we packed up and headed for the boat ramp. I was going to help Heather take Peanut to his first movie (Shreck 3) around 3:00. Â

However I never made it to the theatre on the way home from the boat ramp my trailer broke. I don’t mean a bolt came out or a tire went flat or a light bulb was out I mean the frame of the trailer broke. Inbetween the part that connects to the truck and where the boat is hooked on the metal frame cracked on the sides sending the frame to the ground. Luckily it happened on Shawnee mission parkway not far from home and close to a side street. After a quick diagnosis we determined we could drag the boat to the side street and decide what to do. This went really well and the small part of trailer that was left held the boat until we could get it on the street and disconnected from the truck.

Once on the side street we decided the only way to get the boat home was to do a complete repair on the trailer and so we left the boat on the curb and headed to Jon’s house. We got the gas welder and any tools we would need and part of an old bed frame from the house we cleaned out.

We went back to the boat and bent and pounded and worked the cracks to get the broken piece as strait and back to normal as we could.

Â

Jon made a few welds to hold the cracks on the sides together. Then we cut angled sections of the bed frame out to use as splints on the broken section.

Â

Jon welded 3 splints to the break and afterward I think the frame is straighter and stronger then before it broke.

Â

We then took home the boat and the tools and everything worked out great. This sounds very simple and quick but it took a long time. It was tough to get the frame strait and uncrumpled enough to weld too, it takes a while to weld stuff, we had to find all the tools we would need, my truck bed was too full of trash to put the welder in at first and Jon is anal about stuff like trailers breaking loose and flying down the road.So I did not get home till after 5:30 and was hungry again. I cooked up some Aldi brand McRibs some tator tots and some corn and we juggled the soccer ball until it was ready.Â

Are Steak and Shake Burger Burps Early in the Morning a Good Thing or a Bad Thing?

I have a bit of a headache and feel preaty tired but will do my best to make a good post.

After work I rushed home to mow the lawn but soon after I got home Jon showed up so I decided to postpone the mowing. We waited for Derrick and then got out the Natty and the Kentaro Ball and started juggling out front. This went on till about 7 then we went inside and got out my robust wheat bread and made some double ham, pepperjack, pepperoni and american cheese sandwiches. Then we gathered the forces and headed to The Red Balloon.

Just like any other night it was $4.25 32oz draws and we got after them but last night they came with a bingo card and between karaoke sessions they mixed in rounds of Bingo. It was preaty fun. Well of course we all had to many of these giant drinks and Heather and Jon sang and the rest of our party of eight just cheered them on. There were some real intresting people in the crowd last night, some so bad at singing they were great to watch and a few really really really good ones. I think the best ones were the guy who nailed the "shake it like a poloroid picture" song and some girl named Mary who sounded just like Joan Jett or one of those heavy rocking girls. There was another good girl in red but I can not remember what songs she sang?

See the cool thing about the site is anyone could help my memory out on that last paragraph if they remember.   So make sure you vote on my polls and let me know what to do with the site.

So after the bar I assumed we would take a taxi home but Jon hopped behind the wheel and took us to Steak and Shake. We all ordered and then Jon and Heather took naps while the rest of us tried to stay awake. Heather was too tired/sick to eat when the food showed up so I ended up eating my Philidelphia hamburger and her bacon cheeseburger and our order of fries. I was quite full.

Then we went home and went to bed. This morning I found poor Heaths sunroof was open last night in the rain and her purse was full of water. I really hate it when that happens.

The Proposal

Well just like any other day today’s post deals with food and what I ate for dinner last night. Most of you would expect this to be a big juicy cheeseburger and Heath expected the same thing.

Last night after work I rushed home and quickly packed up Grandma Natty. I got all the gear, cooler, my clothes etc. and headed towards Hillsdale Lake. I got to Heath’s house and got dressed and put up a for sale sign then we continued on to the lake. We got the boat launched and headed strait for Captains Cove where we spent many evenings and afternoons last season. The water was pretty high still and out little island was still to deep to park on. We drove right over the top without touching it. So instead we tied the boat to a tree in the area and relaxed. We opened some beers and got into comfortable spots. I tossed in a fishing line and a lure but got no bites or anything. We listened to the radio and sipped our beers until some clouds rolled in. They looked like rain but we were not sure if it would come or not and decided to wait it out. Soon after that a big wind picked up, the sky went dark, and then it started dumping out the rain.

e pulled the boat over to the shore and tied it up and climbed into the thick woods to take cover under the trees. (The night before we had gotten rained on in the boat and immediately headed for the boat ramp but it stopped raining once the boat was out) We waited in the trees for a while but the rain did not seem to be stopping anytime soon so I suggested we bring the cooler and grill into the woods and cook our dinner while we wait out the rain. Heath agreed to this plan and I got the stuff.

(Heath in out wooded hideout)

I set down the cooler and knelt down next to the grill and put it together and started to get it lit. Heath asked about the hamburger buns getting wet in the rain. I asked her what made her think we were having burgers and that she better check the cooler. She oppened the lid and was excited to see a bag of shrimp to grill.

“Keep looking in there”, I told her.

“Ohh wow Salmon too”, she said

“keep looking”, I say

“Ohh a bottle of wine too”

“keep looking”

Then Heather moved the bottle of champagne and found a little box. I already being down on my knee was in perfect position to look up as she opened and saw this as I asked her to marry me.

Heather laughed and cried at the same time and said yes and gave me a kiss

Right about this time the rain stopped and the clouds rolled away.

We popped open the champagne pulled the grill next to the shore and filled it with shrimp and salmon.

We spent the rest of the evening playing in the cove drinking champagne, eating shrimp and salmon, doing a little fishing and talking about being fiancés.

No one but the guy at the jewelry store knew I was going to ask and the only reason he knew was because he called me out on it.

A few days ago I walked into the store and saw only 2 salespersons waiting by the door in an otherwise empty store. The younger guy on my right says something like Ohh my when I see a gentleman come into the store with that nervous of a face I know he is here to buy a wedding ring. And I told him he was right.

Now I had come up with the idea last summer. My idea was that this summer if everything was still going well with Heath that I would bring her out to our cove and ask her to marry me on the island. This was our first trip to the cove this season and seemed like good timing. I was a little discouraged when the island was deep under water but decided on the boat over the island would be just as good. I sat on the boat waiting and waiting for Heath to ask about dinner and open the cooler but she never mentioned it even when I started to worry about the dark clouds rolling in she just relaxed. Then the rain came and I was sure she would insist we go back to her house but I suggested waiting it out and she was on board with that idea. Finally as we were huddled together under the thick brush watching the rain over the lake we decided to eat dinner and get the whole thing started.

Mount Timp

HPIM0552.JPGWoo hoo it’s my first post from Utah. We did arrive Friday morning around 9am. We left Kansas city at about 2:30am then slept in Denver’s airport until 7:50am then flew into Utah. Friday we were very tired since we had not gotten to sleep much but we came to dad’s house and got cleaned up and ate a big breakfast then went to see some caves. While waiting for our turn to see the caves pops drove us up a mountain to see a couple of really cool lakes.

We hiked 1.5 miles up a mountain to do the hour cave tour and then rushed back down and we took dad to work for a few hours. Then we went to sleep. We got up early the next morning to hike to Stewart Falls. This was a 2 mile hike through some really pretty woods to a big waterfall. We took lots of really nice pictures and then hiked from there almost another 2 miles to the Sundance (where some film awards are) ski resort. Then we drove into Park City. This is a little touristy town that is a bit artsy for us but was kinda cool. We were pretty thirsty and hungry so we went into “The Monkey Bar”  expecting to get some beers and burgers. They did serve beers and once inside we found out there slogan was “The only brass pole in Park City” and they did not have any food. We went a few bars down to something like the Unknown Saloon and had some Buffalo Burgers and a local brew called Cutthroat. After lunch we went home and I found out my SD card in my Camera was dead and all the pictures were lost. I was kinda pissed. Then we took dad to work and Heather and I went to Bridal Falls armed with her camera. We hiked up to the falls and all around Provo Canyon and took lots of pictures. Then we ate some pizza and went back to pick dad up from work. We were still exhausted from the plane and from hiking around all day. Sunday we woke up at 5:15am and took dad to work then drove to Mt. Timpanogos. We hit the trail at about 6:45am and came back after 16 miles and 9 hours. It was an amazing day and a great hike. The trail was lined with wildflowers, waterfalls, hummingbirds, mountain lakes and streams, piles of snow, and enormous views.

(Heather on part of the trail lined with flowers along a stream)    (Getting ready to hike through some snow and rocks near the summit)    (Looking down near the summit, you can see the path next to Emerald Lake and a huge snow bank on the right. This snow was our way down and once back to the lake we refilled out water supply from it’s crystal clear cold waters)

(Heather and I at the top Utah lake and the city in the background)

(The Top, GPS says 11,760 feet)

Once at the top we decided to take a shortcut down through a huge slope of snow. Instead of hiking around the side of the mountain down step switchbacks through the rock we slid down the snow. I sat down on my butt with my legs out front and Heather sat right behind me and off we sent sliding down the side of the mountain. Heather was shaking like crazy at first but then began to really enjoy it. Our butts and fingers got cold then stiff then numb very quickly but it was really fun and a great break from hiking. We took around 150 pictures on the way up so we ran out of memory for the trip down. This is the best picture of the snow I can find but it is only about 1/2 of the slide. This is another one I took on the way up from the other side of the lake looking up toward the peak.
